Law Enforcement Center Release Paths
A person can leave Jack County Law Enforcement Center in several ways. Bond, a personal-recognizance order, dismissal, time served, sentence completion, or a probation disposition may return the person to the community. A transfer to another county, commitment to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, or pickup on another agency's hold ends this jail's custody without ending confinement. That distinction matters. A name that vanishes from the roster is not, by itself, proof that the person walked free.
The Sheriff’s Jail Division says staff book people in and out and transport them for court and medical or dental appointments. The durable answer is the booking-out, release, transfer, or custody-movement entry kept by the Sheriff. The Kologik Public Jail Roster is the official current population and recent-booking interface linked by the Sheriff. It can display identifying details, a booking or arrest date, charges, bond and warrant fields, days in jail, and a photograph where populated. It is not a public release archive. Jack County has not enabled the vendor’s historical mode, and no official 24-hour or 72-hour released-person list was found.
- Search the current roster for the person and compare identifying details, not just a similar name.
- If the person is absent, call the jail at 940-567-2221 or 940-567-2222 and ask about present custody.
- Submit a written request for the booking-out, release, transfer, or custody-movement record.
- Match the booking to the proper court case and obtain the order or disposition that explains the legal result.
- If the record shows commitment to TDCJ, change to the state offender and release channels.
Request Center Release Records
The Jack County Sheriff open-records page requires a written request and does not accept a request by telephone. The online channel accepts an uploaded request no larger than 10 MB. A request may also be delivered in person or mailed to the Open Records Unit at 1432 FM 3344, Jacksboro, TX 76458, or faxed to 940-567-2144. Questions may go to 940-567-2161. The Sheriff states that online requests are processed and returned by the selected delivery method within ten business days. No local fee table is published, so a requester should not assume a set price.
Ask for identifiable records that already exist. Supply the full name, date of birth if known, an approximate arrest or booking range, and the booking number if available. Request the booking-in sheet or jail-register entry separately from the booking-out, release, transfer, or custody-movement record. Also ask for the recorded release date and time, release type or authority, receiving agency or destination, the retained release order, property-release documentation, and booking photograph if those items exist. Request electronic production and redaction of exempt fields rather than withholding of the whole record.

Texas State Library Local Schedule PS gives useful retention context. Item PS4200-06 defines the county jail register to include a release or transfer date and makes that register permanent. Item PS4200-10 covers booking-in and booking-out forms, transport, transfer and release documents, and copies of confinement or release orders. Its minimum is release or transfer plus two years. Retention does not mean every field must be posted online or released without lawful redaction.
The wording of the request affects whether the response settles the question. “Was this person released?” asks the public-information officer to research and draw a conclusion. A request for the existing booking-out entry, recorded release timestamp, authority, and receiving agency points to records that can be located and copied. If no responsive release sheet is found, ask whether the permanent jail-register entry exists and which custodian keeps the booking-out documentation. Keeping the photo request separate also prevents a dispute over an image from obscuring the basic custody record.
Jack County Release Court Proof
The correct clerk depends on the case. The 271st District Clerk maintains felony records. The County Clerk keeps county-court records, while the County Court handles Class A and B misdemeanors. The Justice of the Peace handles Class C matters and magistrate duties. A case file may contain the charge, case number, bond order, docket events, dismissal, judgment, sentence, jail-credit language, or commitment order.
Court proof should be read beside the jail record. An order can authorize release before jail staff finish identification checks, property return, paperwork, and any hold review. Conversely, transfer paperwork may close the county booking even though the person remains confined elsewhere. The court disposition explains the legal outcome. No sourced county rule supports assigning TDCJ weekday release hours, bus vouchers, gate checks, or state release sites to this jail. Family members should call before travel because the Sheriff has not published local release logistics. A direct call may confirm current status, but a durable record still requires the written channel.
The roster photograph also has a narrow role. Jack County’s public settings permit a current photo where one is populated, but disabled history means the roster is not an archive of photographs for people who have left. An older booking photo may still exist even after the online card disappears. Request it from the Sheriff as its own existing record, and do not treat the image as proof of the final charge result or release reason.
Two FM 3344 Release Systems
The county Law Enforcement Center and John R. Lindsey Unit are both on FM 3344 in Jacksboro, yet they are separate custodians. The county jail is at 1432 FM 3344. The TDCJ prison is at 1620 FM 3344. Their close addresses make it easy to call the wrong office or mistake a state transfer for release.
A county booking stays with the Sheriff and the local court until transfer. Lindsey custody belongs to TDCJ. If the county record names TDCJ as the destination, the person has left Jack County custody but has not necessarily entered the community. Continue through the John R. Lindsey Unit release path or another named TDCJ unit, using the state record rather than the county roster.
