Understanding Jack County Releases

A release ends one agency's physical custody, but it does not always mean a return home. A person may leave the Jack County Law Enforcement Center after posting bond, completing a county sentence, receiving a court order, or being transferred to TDCJ, another county, the U.S. Marshals Service, or immigration custody. A person leaving John R. Lindsey Unit follows TDCJ rules. The agency that made the custody change keeps the most useful proof.

The live Kologik Public Jail Roster shows the current county population and recent bookings. A name that disappears is only a clue. It does not distinguish release from transfer, a hold, or a data update. The stronger record is an affirmative booking-out entry, custody-movement record, court order, TDCJ release record, or federal result tied to the correct system.

Discharge

The end of a sentence or TDCJ obligation, not merely movement between facilities.

Parole

Conditional release from prison under state supervision.

Probation

Court-ordered community supervision that may occur instead of, or after, confinement.

Time served

A court result crediting confinement already completed.

Jack County Release Paths

The next search depends on the legal custodian. County records document a Sheriff release. TDCJ records document a prison release, parole, mandatory supervision, or discharge. Court files can establish the order or disposition behind either event. Federal and immigration systems should be checked only when a federal agency held or received the person.

Jack County Release Record Fields

A useful request ties the release back to the booking. The public Kologik roster exposes identity, booking, charge, bond, agency, and photograph fields for current entries, but Jack County has disabled history mode. The Sheriff's retained record may contain the affirmative facts that are not available on the public screen. Ask for existing fields, not a new explanation.

A charge on the roster is an accusation until a court supplies a disposition. The release entry also does not prove that the charge was dismissed. For felony cases, the 271st District Clerk is the local court custodian. Class A and B misdemeanor matters run through the County Clerk, while the Justice of the Peace handles Class C matters and magistrate work.

Request Jack County Release Records

The Sheriff's Open Records page requires a written request. Telephone requests are not accepted, though staff can answer process questions. Requests may be sent through the online upload, delivered in person, mailed, or faxed. The online upload accepts a file no larger than 10 MB and lets the requester select a delivery method.

1. Identify the person by full name, date of birth if known, booking range, and booking number if available.
2. Request the booking-in sheet, jail-register entry, booking-out or custody-movement record, release date and time, authority, destination, retained order, and booking photo.
3. Ask for redaction of protected fields and production of the rest in its existing electronic format.
4. Set a cost ceiling and request an itemized estimate before work exceeds it. Jack County publishes no fixed local fee table.
5. If no record is found, ask whether the permanent jail register has an entry and which custodian holds the booking-out document.

The Sheriff says online requests will be processed and returned through the chosen method within ten business days. Treat that as the office's stated practice, not a guarantee for every Texas request. Under the Texas Public Information Act, an agency must produce records promptly or take the required procedural step, such as providing a reasonable production date or seeking an Attorney General ruling.

A narrow request is easier to route than a broad demand for every record about a person. Separate the booking sheet, booking-out entry, movement record, retained release order, and photograph. The public-information officer does not have to answer a question, conduct legal research, or infer why a roster entry changed. Native electronic delivery can reduce copying work, while a stated cost limit gives the office a clear point at which to send an estimate. If the requested event belongs to TDCJ, a court, BOP, USMS, or ICE, send it to that custodian because the Sheriff cannot produce a record it does not maintain.

Texas Rules for Jack Records

Texas Government Code Chapter 552 governs requests for existing public information. Section 552.108 may protect some law-enforcement material, while subsection 552.108(c) leaves basic information about an arrest outside that exception. Other laws can protect juvenile, medical, victim, sealed, or expunged information. A denial should identify the legal basis, and releasable portions may still be produced.

Retention is separate from disclosure. Local Schedule PS makes the county jail register permanent under PS4200-06, including its release or transfer date. PS4200-10 sets a minimum of release or transfer plus two years for booking-in/out, transport, transfer, release records, and copies of legal orders. An agency may keep a record longer, and retention never makes every field public.

Find Released Jack County Inmates

Start with the place of confinement, then look for an affirmative custody change. Jack County has no public 24-hour, 72-hour, five-day, or ten-day release archive. The same-day 24-Hour Release List process therefore begins with the jail and written records, not a fabricated feed.

1. Check the current county roster to see whether the person remains at the Law Enforcement Center.
2. Call the jail at 940-567-2221 or 940-567-2222, then request the release or custody-movement record in writing.
3. Check the correct Jack County court for the order, judgment, dismissal, bond action, or other disposition.
4. If the person entered state custody, use TDCJ offender information and its email or telephone alternatives.
5. For federal or immigration custody, use the BOP or ICE channel and the related court record.

TDCJ Search for Jack Releases

The TDCJ online inmate search expressly covers people currently incarcerated in a TDCJ facility. It is updated on working days and may be at least 24 hours old. It should not be presented as a full archive of released people. For a person transferred from the county jail or held at Lindsey Unit, it can confirm current state custody and show offense, location, parole-review, projected-release, or scheduled-release fields when available.

TDCJ also accepts email requests at no charge for specified information, including the TDCJ number, location, conviction offense, incarceration history, county and court details, and Projected Release Date. Its email route does not provide photographs or Social Security numbers. Telephone lines serve general information, pre-vote parole review, and post-vote release processing.

A Projected Release Date is a calculation by TDCJ Classification and Records. It estimates when incarceration may end if parole does not occur first. It is not proof of departure. Offense date, conviction offense, flat time, good-conduct time, legal eligibility, and Board action may affect the projection. Texas has no blanket rule that every state prisoner serves 85 percent. Once a release certificate arrives, TDCJ audits the file and may post a Scheduled Release Date and location. Even that later date can change without notice. Actual release should be confirmed through an updated state record or the release-status line.

That warning is why a released-person check must also use records, supervision, or court results.

Two Jack Release Systems

Jack County's two correctional sites share the FM 3344 corridor but not an operator. The Law Enforcement Center at 1432 FM 3344 is run by the Sheriff. Lindsey Unit at 1620 FM 3344 is a TDCJ prison. Their close locations make a record mix-up unusually easy. County jail release procedures cannot be assigned to Lindsey, and TDCJ weekday release rules cannot be assigned to the county jail.

A Sheriff's booking may end with transfer to Lindsey or another TDCJ unit. That is a county release only in the narrow sense that county custody stopped. Community release from a TDCJ sentence is documented later by the state. Ask the Sheriff for the receiving agency, then continue through TDCJ rather than treating a vanished county roster entry as final proof.

Jack Release Orders and Courts

The court record can explain the authority behind a Jack County release. The 271st District Clerk maintains felony records. The County Clerk keeps county-court records for Class A and B misdemeanors, while the Justice of the Peace handles Class C cases and magistrate functions. The upcoming docket portal is useful for scheduled proceedings but is not a complete historical name search.

A judgment may show a sentence, credit, dismissal, probation, or other disposition. It does not establish the precise moment the jail completed processing, and a jail release record does not establish the final case result. Use both when the distinction matters. A court order may also coexist with another hold, so the person can leave one custodian without returning to the community.

Identification After TDCJ Release

TDCJ's Reentry and Integration Division works with eligible people before release to secure identification documents. Staff may help with a birth certificate, Social Security card, or Texas identification card. This is a state-prison service, not a published service of the Jack County jail. The distinction matters for a family planning a pickup or helping someone obtain documents.

Transportation also differs by system. TDCJ says state-jail inmates may leave from their unit of assignment or receive a bus voucher to the county of residence. Family pickup may be arranged, but the unit should be called before travel. Jack County has not published equivalent county-jail pickup hours, vouchers, gate checks, or release locations.

Getting Home After Jack Release

The TDCJ Reentry Resource Guide lists Concerned Citizens/Public Transit Service at 400 East Pine Street in Jacksboro, 940-328-1391. It describes curb-to-curb service, a $2 fare for riders age 64 and younger, and a $1 fare for riders age 65 and older. It recommends calling the day before.

The source does not say that transit waits at either facility or guarantees a release pickup. Confirm the actual departure location and time with the correct facility first. A planned ride should account for processing changes, another agency's hold, and the fact that a scheduled TDCJ date may change even on that date.

Funds After a Jack TDCJ Release

TDCJ release funds vary by state custody and release type. Its guidance says state-jail inmates receive no gate money. People released to parole or mandatory supervision receive $50 at release and another $50 after reporting. A person who flat-discharges from a Correctional Institutions Division prison receives $100.

These are TDCJ rules and cannot be promised for a person leaving the Jack County Law Enforcement Center. First confirm whether the person is a county detainee or a TDCJ prisoner. Then verify the release type with the correct agency before planning travel or other immediate needs around the published amount.

Jack Release Alerts and Federal Custody

County victim notification changed on September 1, 2025, when Texas replaced legacy county VINE with Texas IVSS-Counties. The Jack County roster has no local registration button. TDCJ IVSS is a separate system for state custody, parole, and mandatory supervision. It can show a released status in the state context and allow registration for supported events. The Texas sex offender registry is narrower still; it covers only people with a registration duty and is not a general released-person database.

The BOP locator can show federal records from 1982 forward, including a past release date or status such as RELEASED, NOT IN BOP CUSTODY, IN TRANSIT, or UNKNOWN. ICE's locator is mainly for current detention and may retain some people released within 60 days. USMS has no comparable public released-person locator because it houses federal prisoners in many federal, state, local, and private facilities.

Federal results need careful reading. A BOP date may be historical or projected, and “not in BOP custody” does not say whether another authority has custody. ICE requires an exact A-number and country of birth, or exact biographical data, and some people are excluded from public results. A post-release ICE check-in notice can support the fact that detention ended, but it is not a Jack County release certificate or a final immigration ruling. For a federal pretrial matter, the federal court docket and release order may provide clearer affirmative proof than a broad request for another person's USMS file.

An ICE detainer can ask the county to hold a person for up to 48 hours beyond the time the county otherwise would release them so DHS may assume custody. Thus, the end of a Jack County booking can be a transfer. Use the county movement record, ICE locator or ERO, and the immigration case channel as separate evidence.

No single database covers every Jack County custody path. The system below should match the agency that actually held or received the person.

Jack County Release Facilities

Jack County Law Enforcement Center is the primary county jail. Confirm its releases through the jail, a Sheriff's written record, and the court case. John R. Lindsey Unit is a state prison. Confirm its releases through TDCJ offender information, state release records, a release certificate when applicable, and the correct supervision channel.

Neither facility should be expanded into a list of municipal, federal, or immigration sites that research did not locate in the county. An outside agency may place a hold or move a person without operating a detention center in Jack County.
